چکیده

Endogenous adenosine can enter the extracellular space either by direct release or via formation from adenine nucleotides. We have compared the effects of substances blocking the ecto-5'-nucleotidase with α, β-methylene adenosine 5'-diphosphate (AOPCP) or adenosine kinase with iodotubercidin (Itu) on field potentials in the hippocampus and the neostriatum in vitro evoked by stimulation of the stratum radiatum or the cortico-striatal pathway respectively. AOPCP enhanced the amplitude of the population spikes by 34% in the hippocampus and by 26.5% in the neostriatum. DPCPX, a selective A1-receptor antagonist, increased the amplitude of the population spikes by 68% in the hippocampus and by 53.5% in the neostriatum. Thus both, release of adenosine from the intracellular space and, extracellular dephosphorylation of adenine nucleotides to a lesser extent, contribute to the effective levels of adenosine in the extracellular space in hippocampus and neostriatum.

Interaction of Memantine with Homocysteine on the Apoptosis in the Rat Hippocampus cells

It has been hypothesized that elevated plasma Homocysteine (Hcy) plays a role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and age-related cognitive decline. The mechanism of Hcy neurotoxicity in the brain is controversial as well Hcy is a ligand of NMDA receptor. Memantine, an uncompetitive antagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors approved for the treatment of moderate to severe ...

The effects of adenosine injection after of brain ischemia reperfusion injury on gene expression of NF-kB/p65 and activity level of ROS in male Wistar rats

Background: Unit of p65 is one of the subunits of NF-κB and its phosphorylation by stress oxidative causes activation of NF-κB. The aim of present study was to investigate the effects of adenosine injection after brain ischemia reperfusion injury on gene expression of NF-κB /p65 and Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in hippocampus tissue of male wistar rats. Methods: 40 male wistar rats were rando...

Neuropathological Changes in Brain Cortex and Hippocampus in a Rat Model of Alzheimer’s Disease

Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with progressive loss of cognitive abilities and memory loss. The aim of this study was to compare neuropathological changes in hippocampus and brain cortex in a rat model of AD. Methods: Adult male Albino Wistar rats (weighing 250-300 g) were used for behavioral and histopathological studies. The rats were randomly assigned t...

Improving the Izhikevich Model Based on Rat Basolateral Amygdala and Hippocampus Neurons, and Recognizing Their Possible Firing Patterns

Introduction: Identifying the potential firing patterns following different brain regions under normal and abnormal conditions increases our understanding of events at the level of neural interactions in the brain. Furthermore, it is important to be capable of modeling the potential neural activities to build precise artificial neural networks. The Izhikevich model is one of the simplest biolog...

The Effects of L-arginine on the Hippocampus of Male Rat Fetuses under Maternal Stress

Introduction: Prenatal stress has deleterious effects on the development of the brain and is associated with behavioral and psychosocial problems in childhood and adulthood. This study aimed to determine the protective effect of L-arginine on fetal brain under maternal stress. Methods: Twenty pregnant Wistar rats (weighting 200-230 g) were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=5 for each group). T...
